MSU Health Care Pharmacy Secures Specialty Medication Accreditation

Accreditation empowers the pharmacy to provide patients with rare diseases specialty medication.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – MSU Health Care Pharmacy has been awarded a specialty accreditation that will enable the pharmacy to dispense specialty medication for patients with various rare health conditions such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, anemia from chronic kidney disease or cancer chemotherapy, and psoriasis

The accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) —a leading organization that measures the quality of health care organizations and pharmacies in the United States—signifies that MSU Health Care Pharmacy meets the highest standards of quality and safety in the industry.

A specialty medication generally:

  • Treats patients with complex and/or rare diseases
  • Is a self-administered medication and/or an injectable non-diabetic medication
  • Requires special handling, administration or more frequent patient monitoring and additional patient education
  • Is a high-cost medication where the patient may need medication access services
  • Requires high-touch patient care coordination and monitoring services
